VSPA for VDI Environments | LRS Output Management

VSPA for Virtual Desktop (VDI) Environments

Many organizations seek to implement Virtual Desktop Infrastructure (VDI) environments to reduce costs while increasing security, flexibility, and control. However, printing can become more complicated in a VDI environment because unlike traditional desktops, any printer that a user defines after they logon to their desktop is subsequently lost at logoff time. This leads to user frustration and increased help-desk calls. In addition, basic administrative tasks — such as defining default printers for various models/manufacturers of thin/zero client terminals — can prove quite challenging.

The LRS Approach

With Virtual Session Printer Agent for VPSX® (VSPA) software, IT administrators can easily associate users, printers, and terminals in an intelligent manner to ensure the successful deployment of VDI across the enterprise. Using a simple yet powerful web-based interface, authorized staff can define printers for end-users and thin/zero client terminals and designate which printer is the default device for application printing. Intelligent management of user- and terminal-specific printer definitions ensures that a worker always has the ability to print to a nearby device, the printer back in his or her office, or any required location on the network.

The VSPA™ solution also lets users add printers permanently to their virtual desktops, so these devices are always accessible across multiple virtual desktop sessions. By making virtual desktop printing more like traditional workstation printing, VSPA software improves the user experience with VDI, which increases overall productivity and reduces support calls.

VDI Environments Supported

The VSPA solution works with Citrix® XenDesktop® and Citrix XenApp® software as well as VMWare® Horizon (with View) desktops 4.0 and higher. This helps companies realize the benefits of virtualization without negatively impacting their document-related applications and business processes.

Part of the Integrated LRS Output Management Solution

VSPA software extends the benefits of VPSX Enterprise™, VPSX/Workplace™, and VPSX/DirectPrint™ solutions to the VDI environment by routing application and user documents to their destinations while providing feedback on delivery failure or success. In the event of network or hardware problems, LRS® software can re-route output to alternate destinations and minimize the impact on your business. Powerful document compression capabilities enable a high number of concurrent printing sessions while minimizing network traffic.
